Our Bird Survey Services
We conduct comprehensive bird surveys throughout the year, tailored to the needs of each project:
1. Breeding Bird Surveys (BBS)
- Conducted between April and June to assess the presence of breeding birds on-site.
- Based on the British Trust for Ornithology’s (BTO) Breeding Bird Survey methodology and CIEEM guidance.
- Three structured site visits (April, May, June) to record territory mapping, species identification, and population estimates.
2. Breeding Bird Checks
- Focused pre-clearance surveys to assess whether breeding birds are present in a specific habitat area before vegetation removal.
- Conducted throughout the breeding season (March – August).
- Ensures compliance with legal protection measures and prevents delays due to unexpected nesting activity.
3. Barn Owl Surveys
- Specific assessments for barn owls, often required for barn conversions and rural developments.
- Surveys identify nesting and roosting locations and inform mitigation measures.
4. Overwintering & Migratory Bird Surveys
- Conducted outside the breeding season to assess the presence of wintering and passage birds.
- Supports habitat assessments for larger-scale developments impacting seasonal bird populations.
